Mountain Premier League Established in 2019

Published Apr 19, 2019

Early in the 2019 winter, a group of soccer club owners and managers from the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado and Wyoming found themselves in a unique position. The clubs were without a competition they believed could host them in an open, merit based, FIFA compliant system. However, the club's desire to compete in a merit based open system was realized far before 2019. After years of competing and experiencing the established local and national leagues the clubs decided it was time to act and make a league founded on the same principles as other leagues across the world in hope that one day they too could join an open system based American soccer association under the US Soccer Federation.

The result is the Mountain Premier League. Founded, owned, and operated by its member clubs and their board representatives. The league follows the leadership of Daniel Workman who was established as the commissioner in March of 2019. The league will work to stay in compliance with the governing associations of an open system once established. The founding clubs are Colorado Springs FC and FC Colorado. The charter member clubs are FC Boulder and GAM United FC. The Mountain Premier League envisions itself in a tier 4  amateur level of competition, connecting with the other 16 regions of the country and representing region IV. The league is currently sanctioned with US Soccer through USASA.

The MPL intends to play a year long season beginning in the Fall of 2019 and running into the Spring of 2020. There will be a winter break beginning in November and ending in March. The season will begin in August and end at the beginning of July.  The schedule will remain balanced with home and away games. Substitutions are limited and there is a no reentry rule in place. Home games will be hosted by clubs at their home facilities. The league provides it's clubs 5 official match balls for games, per Spring and Fall. The league also provides a place for teams to host their websites. Other highlights of this league is the priority to maintain and implement an independent disciplinary committee and a director of officials approved with oversight from the board.

Later this year MPL is hopeful to host The Daniel Workman show in Denver. The show began Monday April 8th and airs everyday at 7am MST.  The show is hosted by Daniel Workman the leagues commissioner and hosts guests to talk everything soccer especially the open system movement.
